"Allāhumma aḥsin 'āqibatanā fī al-umūri kullihā…" asks Allah to make the ending good in every affair, not just the big, visible ones, but every conversation, project and habit. It's built on the Prophetic teaching that "actions are by their endings," recorded in Musnad Aḥmad (17571).
Why This Dua Matters
The scholars tell us that what matters most is not how something begins, but how it ends. A good deed can start in complete sincerity, but lose its sense of intention by the end. Even if you complete the deed, the Prophet (PBUH) taught us: innamā al-a'mālu bil-khawātīm (actions are by their endings).
If you've started something and drifted from your intention, it's not a cause for anxiety. It's a cause for a very specific dua: one that asks Allah (SWT) to be the guardian of the endings, not just the witness to the beginnings.
Fī al-umūri kullihā: in all our affairs. Not the important ones, not the ones with visible stakes, all of them: the conversation, the project, the week, the habit, the relationship, the life.

Transliteration
Allāhumma aḥsin 'āqibatanā fī al-umūri kullihā wa ajirnā min khizyi al-dunyā wa 'adhābi al-ākhira.
“O Allah, make good our ending in all our affairs, and protect us from the disgrace of this world and the punishment of the Hereafter.”
How to Make This Dua Part of Your Week
When something you began well needs to be finished well
The ending is not automatic. It requires the same intention the beginning was made with, even when that intention has been worn down by the distance travelled.
When you are praying for someone else's ending
The plural, "our" ending, is deliberate. Say this dua for the people around you whose affairs are coming to conclusions.
When your giving this Friday is an act of asking for a good ending
The Prophet (PBUH) told us that sadaqah protects from a bad end. Your giving this Friday is part of that: this dua gives it a name.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Allahumma ahsin aqibatana fi al-umuri kulliha" mean?
It means "O Allah, make good our ending in all our affairs," a request that covers every affair in a person's life, not just the significant ones.
What does "husn al-khatimah" mean?
Husn al-khātimah means "a good ending," a central concept in Islamic teaching that a life, or any deed within it, is judged by how it concludes, not only by how sincerely it began.
Where does this dua come from?
It's recorded in Musnad Aḥmad (hadith 17571), classed as ṣaḥīḥ (authentic) by al-Albānī. This dua also underlies the closely related article about a good ending after Eid al-Adha, framed there through the story of Ibrahim (AS).
